Research in our laboratory focuses on DNA repair systems, primarily DNA mismatch repair in yeast. Most cases of hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer in humans are due to defects in one of a few DNA mismatch repair genes. We have shown that mismatch repair is extremely important in preventing mutagenesis due to oxidative damage in yeast, and are continuing to explore its role in mutageneis and in recombination.
