Computational Neuroethology Laboratory. Our main interest is to explore the elegant hypothesis in neuroscience that the statistics and regularities of the sensory world are closely reflected in the coding strategies used by neurons. Our approach is to quantitatively evaluate coding theories and function in the context of a specific neural system:
communication sound processing in mice. We combine neuroethology and computational methods to design electrophysiology experiments that investigate the correspondences between the properties of natural mouse vocalizations, cortical neural responses and auditory behavior. More recently, we are also becoming interested in using our automated methods in rodent vocalization analysis to probe the relationship between ultrasonic calling and physiological, sexual and/or psychological processes.
