IHOP: Invertebrate Host-Parasite Interactions Journal Club

What is IHOP?

The journal club is designed to bring researchers in the Georgia area together to discuss recent research in the field of inverebrate-parasite interactions. The group currently includes faculty, students and staff from Emory and Georgia Tech (and one grad student from UC Berkeley), and we are hoping to involve researchers from other institutions as well. To get on the journal club email list, contact Nicole. Put Invertebrate Interactions in the subject line. Discussion is centered around recent journal articles on insects, other invertebrates, host-parasite interactions, immunity, stress, parasitoids, pathogens, microbes and other relevant topics.

IHOP Format

Pot-Luck

Once a month, the group will meet at someone's house in the evening for food and discussion. The host will prepare the main dish, and everyone else is asked to bring food or drink to share.

Article Discussion

This is a traditional journal club, where everyone reads the same article beforehand so that it can be discussed. These meetings will be held at Emory University or at Georgia Tech.

What's New

For What's New, everyone who has the time prepares a 1-5 minute presentation on an article that they have read recently. The idea is to get broad exposure to what is going on in the field. If there is a lot of interest in a given article, then it might be discussed later at a normal article discussion.

Research Presentation

Volunteers can use a normally scheduled meeting to give a practice presentation or to get feedback on ongoing or planned research projects. If you are interested, contact Nicole to suggest a date.
